Happy 2022 from Nperville Responds For Veterans – Positively Naperville

Dear Friends of our Veterans,

Times have been tumultuous over the past two years. But Naperville Responds For Veterans, with an all-volunteer Board of Directors, continues to serve our Veterans, active military and their families.

Despite the ongoing pandemic and associated challenges, there has not been a slowdown in requests for services. NRFV continues to provide much-needed home repairs, renovations and modifications to Veterans in financial need with a focus on safety and accessibility.

By the end of fall 2021, the Board of Directors had approved over 28 projects, spending more than $160,000 to improve the lives of Veterans. And the Construction and Veterans Committees, the volunteers who oversee and qualify applicants for services, have another dozen projects ongoing.

A recent project completed in Darien, Illinois, gives a good sense of what we commonly do. An 85-year-old disabled Vietnam Navy Veteran and his wife contacted us for assistance on some critical home modifications. Our Construction and Veterans Committees quickly fixed their roof in disrepair and renovated their bathroom to make it handicap accessible with grab bars and a roll-in shower.

This past year, we were able to host our annual Strength and Honor Luncheon after it was postponed in 2020. Guest speaker and author Jeffrey Veesenmeyer, a Navy Air Reserve Veteran, spoke about WWII Navy history in the South Pacific and how to document a Veteran’s experience while serving our great nation. You can watch the informative speech at www.napervilleresponds.org/video.

We are already planning The Naperville Salute over Independence Day Weekend in 2022. The hometown celebration honors Veterans, First Responders, and our Hometown Heroes. The Salute in 2021 was a great success and was planned in just five weeks due to COVID restrictions. We are enthusiastic to report this year’s Salute will be even better!

Once again, members at White Eagle Golf Club, Cress Creek Country Club and Naperville Country Club held the Tournament for Champions golf event, raising record funds for Naperville Responds. We were also a recipient of the inaugural David R. Metcalf Golf Classic, which donated $25,000 of its proceeds to Naperville Responds. Thanks to all.

If you know any Veterans in need, please have them or help them apply for assistance through our website at www.napervilleresponds.org. Applying through our website helps to expedite the application process so NRFV volunteers can execute a project quickly and efficiently. All applications for assistance are vetted by the NRFV Veterans Committee on an “income” and “needs” basis.

We understand the current business climate. With supply chain issues, staffing shortages and the unknowns of inflation, it’s challenging to be charitable. It is hard to be generous when you are not profitable. Naperville Responds encourages everyone to support local enterprise.

As an organization, we continue to cautiously and expeditiously utilize funds raised. About 90 percent of monetary donations directly benefit Veterans. Also, Naperville Responds has developed strategic partnerships with area contractors, who continue to donate or steeply discount their services and materials.

Naperville Responds would like to thank our generous supporters, all individuals who volunteer their talents and expertise, and everyone who spreads the message about our mission to assist Veterans in need with home repairs and renovations.

Regardless …….
