Over 50? These Are the 5 Winter Skincare Rules a Dermatologist Wants You To Follow – Well+Good

Winter and dry skin go hand in hand. The lack of humidity in the cold air outside combined with blasting heat inside is a recipe for dehydration at any age, and that goes double if you’ve got more mature skin. That’s because as we get older, it’s more difficult for skin to retain moisture due to decreasing collagen levels, which means women over 50 should plan to double-down on winter-friendly ingredients from now through spring to keep their complexions healthy.

To help you craft a routine to carry you to warmer temps, we tapped Dendy Engelman, MD, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and Mohs surgeon at Shafer Clinic in New York City,  to share her five skin-care “rules” for dry skin season.
